Top 5 Things You Can Do TODAY To Help Reduce Susceptibility to Modern Complex and Chronic Illnesses

How to Live Healthily in a World with Trauma, Modern Living Factors, and Toxins

I’ve written here about factors that are contributing to susceptibility to chronic illness such as PANS/PANDAS, autism, and other “modern” illnesses that are rising steadily. I want to share with you what you can do today to help reduce your and your children’s susceptibility. You don’t have to do everything and something is better than nothing. Pick some that are easier to start with and know that there is a cumulative and exponential benefit to making multiple of these healing changes.

  1. Meditate - Daily breathwork, grounding, and mindfulness help reset the body’s stress response, reducing the impact of stored trauma. Can be as little as 5-15 minutes; a little is exponentially better than none, so do what you can. This is a great way to de-stress and to calm the nervous system.

  2. Reduce toxic exposures - Whether it’s mold, heavy metals, plastics, glyphosate, or any other toxic substance, reduce and eliminate toxic exposures. This might mean buying a water filter, proper mold remediation (check this out), switching to organic bread, switching to natural cleaning products, and switching from plastic to glass containers to name a few. Every toxin not ingested is a toxin that doesn’t have to be removed.

  3. Resolve trauma - Emotional health IS physical health - suppression is toxic to our good health. Trauma — whether inherited, emotional, physical, or environmental — is not just a psychological event; it gets stored in the body’s tissues, nervous system, and cellular memory resulting in GI dysbiosis, chronic inflammation, a hijacked central nervous system, and more. There are many ways to do the work: homeopathy, EMDR, somatic therapy, family constellations, equine therapy, and more.

  4. Get moving and get outside – Movement, natural light, a natural setting, and oxygen can lower cortisol, increase dopamine and serotonin, and calm the nervous system. As the saying goes, there’s no bad weather, just bad wardrobe choices.

  5. Reduce sugar, increase fiber, and limit processed foods - This is hugely important to reducing susceptibility to chronic disease. A diet low in sugar and high in fiber supports healthy detoxification, reduces inflammation, supports healthy immune function, and improves brain health. Include pre- and pro-biotics for additional benefits.

For additional support, add a good constitutional remedy and detox remedies to support naturally calming the nervous system, re-establishing healthy GI flora, reducing inflammation, resolving the effects of trauma, and so much more. Homeopathy can accelerate the healing process.
