Top 3 Autumn Allergy Support Remedies

Fall allergies are typically about ragweed, mold spores and dust mites, and homeopathic remedies can be highly effective in supporting the body's acute response. Below are top 3 remedies I typically see most indicated for fall allergies, plus a few more to round out the list:

Top 3 fall allergy remedies

  1. Sabadilla - Paroxysmal sneezing 3-10x at a time with a clear mucus discharge? Sabadilla 30c.

  2. Allium cepa - If you’re experiencing profuse watery discharge from your eyes as if you were cutting onions, with discharge from your nose that irritates the nostrils.

  3. Natrum muriaticum - For when clear, watery nasal discharge “like a water faucet”, frequent sneezing, and itchy eyes are your primary symptoms.

Other top choices include:

Euphrasia - Copious acrid tears, bland nasal discharge (opposite of Allium cepa). May have red, burning, irritated eyes. Generally feels like conjunctivitis but due to allergies and eyes feel worse in sunlight and wind.

Arsenicum album - Thin, watery, burning nasal discharge, with great restlessness and anxiety - often about health and wellbeing. Symptoms are often worse at night (midnight - 2am), and the person will generally be worse from cold air and desire warmth.

Nux vomica - Nose will feel blocked or stuffy when indoors or and at night, and be runny outdoors or during the day. This person typically is one that overdoes things like coffee or other stimulants and is often stressed. They may feel irritable, chilly, and over-sensitive.

Pulsatilla - Tyipcally indicated later in the allergy cycle, discharges will be thick, bland, and yellow/green. Symptoms typically feel worse in warm rooms and better with fresh air. A person needing Pulsatilla will crave comfort and companionship when feeling under the weather.

Dosing

Select the remedy that best fits your symptoms and take 2 doses (usually 2 pellets) of a 30c potency, 1 hour apart, then wait 4 hours and observe your response. If it’s working, dose as needed up to 3x/day for symptom support. If not, move on to the next best fitting remedy.

And some general tips for managing fall allergies:

  • Wash hands and face frequently, especially before bed - this will remove surface allergens.

  • Keep windows closed during high pollen days to minimize exposure.

  • Use a neti pot or saline rinse to flush out allergens and clear nasal passages

  • Wear sunglasses when outside to protect your eyes from surface allergens.

Better yet, reach out for constitutional support that can have the effect of reducing chronic allergic symptoms in the future.
